The public is invited to meet the famous woodworkers of tomorrow at the opening of “Current Student Work” in the Messler Gallery at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. The event takes place on Friday, March 10, 2006 from 5-7 p.m.
Margaret Jones, the Center’s Senior Administrator, says, “This is an impressive array of original, creative works produced by the eleven participants of the Center’s Nine-month Comprehensive course. It’s fresh, exciting, a must-see!”
Students Dave Barber, Andrea Barra, James Cohen, Kris Fenton, Dave Frechette, Kevin Gill, Ian Kirk, T.J. Mifflin, Johann Rutt, Jesse Shaw, and Peter Wilde came to the school with a common goal – to achieve excellence in furniture design and construction. Otherwise, they are a diverse group, ranging in age from 20 to 60, and coming from backgrounds as varied as deep sea diver, emergency room physician, college student, and carpenter. Under the tutelage of Lead Instructor, David Upfill-Brown and an international list of guest instructors, they have spent the past six months exploring their creativity and honing their skills.
Each student is presenting at least one piece showcasing his or her accomplishment. Their work includes coffee tables, a jewelry box, a liquor cabinet, small gift items, a hall table, wall-hung and freestanding cabinets, and more. These handcrafted, one-of-a-kind designs will be on display and offered for sale in the Gallery through April 13, 2006.
