June 11 – September 9, 2011

“New Work by Faculty,” an exhibition of fine furniture, sculpture, painting, and drawing, opened for the summer on Saturday, June 11th at the Messler Gallery of the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport. The exhibition runs through September 9, 2011.

A broad array of media, styles, and techniques will be on display. These range from Maine furniture maker Kevin Rodel’s Arts & Crafts-inspired bench to British woodcarver Chris Pye’s realistic sculpture of a bat, to Maine woodturner Stephen Gleasner’s colorful vase made from denim, epoxy and plywood. Non-wood items include a painting and a drawing by Maine artists Linden Frederick and John Whalley, respectively, and a cast-Lucite bowl by Illinois wood artist Binh Pho.

“It’s delightful to have such a cornucopia of brilliant faculty work on view all summer,” says Center director Peter Korn. “Then again, what else would you expect to see from instructors who are committed to helping each student find his or her own creative voice?”
