March 23 – April 20, 2007
“Current Student Work” features original furniture and furnishings created by students who will be graduating from the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship’s Nine-month Comprehensive this Spring.
The aesthetic range of the work on display reflects the diverse backgrounds of the 14 students, who arrived in September to immerse themselves in the art of furniture making. They hail from as far away as Snohomish, Washington and as near as Machias, Maine and vary in age from 21 to 50. Their previous occupations include cabinetmaking, mortgage loan recovery, timber framing, x-ray repair, international sales and marketing, editor, heavy equipment repair, architectural drawing, and finish carpentry, plus there are a couple of recent college graduates.
What these students have in common is the desire to establish fulfilling careers in the art of furniture making. Under the leadership of instructor David Upfill-Brown and a host of local, national and international visiting instructors, the class has produced an impressive collection of original work. Exhibiting students include Ben Bogie, Ben Branscom, Jordan Charney, Mike Cyphers, Aaron Fedarko, Daniel Griggs, Cody Grimes, Silas Holmes, Ted Hukill, Liz Phillips, Ben Richmond, Jack Rodie, Liz Vera and Ric Washburn. Their one-of-a-kind designs will be on display in the Gallery through April 20, 2007, and many will be offered for sale.
