“Celebrating the Studio Fellowship” showcases furniture and wood art created by fourteen current and former participants in the Center’s Studio Fellowship Program.
Since 1996, Studio Fellowships have provided advanced creative opportunities to talented young woodworkers and mid-career artists. Fellows receive free studio space at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship for anywhere from a month to a year, plus open access to all of the school’s other resources, such as faculty, equipment, the Messler Gallery, and the Fine Woodworking Library. Tim Rousseau, an early Studio Fellow who subsequently joined the Center’s faculty and opened his own successful furniture studio in Appleton, Maine reflects, “The Fellowship gave me the confidence to explore techniques and designs I might not have otherwise attempted.”
“Celebrating the Studio Fellowship” presents the work of Andrea Barra, Joe Brewer, Kevin Gill, John Godfrey, Chloris Lowe, Mikey Pumphrey, Dean Pulver, Brian Reid, Tim Rousseau, Libby Schrum, Jesse Shaw, Carter Sio, Kristin Terpening and Akiko Yokoyama. From the graceful bends of Akiko Yokoyama’s stool, to Mikey Pumphrey’s conceptually-driven Divorce Chest, the pieces exhibit the bold creativity and excellence in craftsmanship that have become hallmarks of the Center.
