Philip Morley
June 2-6

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn to incorporate handheld CNC technology into their woodworking process while constructing a Morley shop stool. Through this project, students will explore the use of the Shaper Origin for creating precise and complex joinery, including angled mortise-and-tenons, finger joints, and seat rails with expansion slots. In addition to machine work, hand planes will be introduced to add subtle, personalized details that bring refinement and character to each finished piece.

The Morley shop stool’s modern, angular design provides a versatile canvas for experimenting with both traditional and digital fabrication methods. By the end of the class, students will have gained confidence in using a handheld CNC within their own workflow, leaving with a functional and visually striking stool that feels equally at home in the shop or the living space.

Students may bring their own Shaper Origin or use one provided by the school. If using one provided by the school, two students will share one Origin.
