Thomas Ball is a classically trained, award-winning woodcarver based in the National Trust village of Coleshill, Oxfordshire. With foundations in technical illustration, 3D design, and carpentry, he has developed a highly respected career centered on traditional woodcarving, heritage restoration, and contemporary craftsmanship.
Tom has worked extensively on many of Britain’s most significant historic interiors, restoring Grade I listed buildings, royal palaces, chapels, and cathedrals. A standout project includes carving replacement elements for the renowned Grinling Gibbons reredos at Trinity College Chapel, Oxford.
From his rural workshop, Tom also undertakes bespoke carving commissions of all sizes—from fine lettering to miniature boxwood carvings and large ornamental pieces. Alongside his professional practice, he teaches at the City & Guilds of London Art School, where he is the Lead Woodcarving Tutor. He was awarded the Master Carver certificate in 2021 and named Heritage Crafts Woodworker of the Year in 2024.
