Osamu Sassa is a designer/maker based in Rockland, ME. Following a 20+ year career in architecture, he turned his design focus to woodworking as a graduate of the Nine-month Comprehensive and later assistant for the same program. His practice, Mutsukuri, reimagines everyday objects and furniture with thoughtful clarity to invoke their inherent spirit. His work has been exhibited at Penland and the CFC New Work by Faculty; Alumni and Fellows Show; and Maine Wood. In addition to his architecture degrees from Cornell (B.Arch ‘94) and Harvard (MAUD ‘99), he has been granted fellowships and residencies at the CFC, Haystack, and Penland, where he has also taught. Osamu teaches product development for the Nine-month Comprehensive.
