Adam Raphael Markowitz is an architect as well as furniture & lighting designer/maker based in Melbourne, Australia. He has attended graduate schools of design & craft in Australia, The Royal Academy in Denmark and the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in 2014. Exposed in those schools to fine craft and traditional joinery alongside contemporary design, he has developed a design philosophy that values the intimate connection between design and fabrication, and the new opportunities found at the intersection of modern digital processes and traditional methods of craftsmanship. His practice often explores process and material based experimentation, including numerous collaborations with other craftworkers such as ceramicists, Metal workers and Glass blowers. He helped establish the ExLab experimental Design Studio at the Melbourne School of Design, The University of Melbourne and teaches Design at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. Since 2015 his interdisciplinary practice has offered Architectural Services, Design Consultancy, small batch production and bespoke one-off commission work. His work sits in numerous collections locally and internationally, and he has been the recipient of several awards in both Furniture & Architecture.
