The 25 artists represented in this exhibition are drawn from the internationally diverse and talented instructors at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. They explore a wide range of styles and techniques, from Chris Pye’s realistic Koi fish sculpture, to Brian Reid’s abstract marquetry side board, 2700 Squares, to Kimberly Winkle’s richly lacquered Olive Green End Table. The diversity of work reflects the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship’s teaching philosophy, which is to encourage each student to find his or her own creative voice. “One of the most enjoyable aspects of teaching at the Center is working with talented and knowledgeable co-teachers. It is an honor to exhibit my work alongside theirs,” says Aled Lewis, Lead Instructor for the Nine-month Comprehensive program.
The exhibition’s international participants include Adrian Ferrazzutti (Canada), Michael Fortune (Canada), Aled Lewis (England), Chris Pye (England), and David Upfill-Brown (Australia). Participants from across the United States include Ross Day (Washington), Peter Galbert (New York), Garrett Hack (Vermont), Tom Hucker (New Jersey), Beth Ireland (Massachusetts), Silas Kopf (Massachusetts), Alf Sharp (Tennessee), Peter Shepard (Massachusetts), Craig Stevens (Ohio), Leslie Webb (Texas), and Kimberly Winkle (Tennessee). Exhibitors from Maine include Aaron Fedarko (Camden), Stephen Gleasner (Appleton), Jim Macdonald (Burnham), Mac Ray (Damariscotta), Brian Reid (Rockland), Kevin Rodel (Brunswick), Tim Rousseau (Appleton), Pete Schlebecker (Camden), and John Whalley (Damariscotta).
