The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship’s yearly exhibition New Work by Faculty opened for the summer on Friday, June 14th at the school’s Messler Gallery. The 29 woodworkers, designers, and artists represented are leaders in the fields of furniture making and design, wood turning, marquetry, and carving. The exhibition runs through September 11, 2024.
From the exquisitely veneered tri-panel-screen by John Cameron, to the lyrical bent wood lamps by Yuri Kobayashi, to the masterfully carved hanging cocoon by John Bryan, the items on display represent contemporary wood craftsmanship at its best. “This work beautifully exhibits our instructors’ breadth of talent and deep expertise in design and construction of furniture and furnishings. The diversity of objects in this show will surely delight our visitors as we welcome members of the community come see the work and celebrate these fabulous makers,” says Executive Director Matt Hoggle.
All 29 makers represented in the exhibition are current-year instructors at the Center. They come from as far away as Spain and Wales, and as close by as Camden, Rockland, and Waldoboro, Maine. Their work is exceptionally diverse, as befits a school whose teaching philosophy encourages each student to find their own creative voice.

Exhibitors from across the U.S. include: Bruce Beeken, of Beeken Parsons (Shelburne, VT), John Cameron (Gloucester, MA), Rob Chamberlin (Kalamazoo, MI), Vivian Chiu (Henrico, VA), Erik Curtis (Philadelphia, PA), Aspen Golann (Rollinsford, NH), Garrett Hack (Thetford Center, VT), Reed Hansuld (Brooklyn, NY), Larissa Huff (Philadelphia, PA), Beth Ireland (St. Petersburg, FL), Patrick Kana (Dedham, MA), Jack Mauch (Spruce Pine, NC), Matt Monaco (Springfield, MO), Jomo Tariku (Springfield, VA), Curt Theobald (Pine Bluffs, WY), and Chelsea Witt (Cinnaminson, NJ).
