Alumni & Fellows Exhibition

September 26, 2014 - January 7, 2015

A juried exhibition of work by Center for Furniture Craftsmanship alumni and former Studio Fellows opened at the Messler Gallery in Rockport, Maine on Friday, September 26.

The work on display is primarily furniture, from elegant, comfortable chairs to sculptural tables and clocks. Peter Korn, the Center’s director, says that he is gratified to see the school’s graduates exploring a variety of aesthetic terrains. “This is just what we hope to impart;” he commented, “beyond a commitment to superb craftsmanship, there is the courage to develop one’s own creative voice.”

Jurors for the exhibition were Betty Scarpino, Editor, American Woodturner magazine, Meg White, Director of Boston’s Gallery NAGA, and Andrew Zoellner, Assistant Editor, American Craft magazine (positions held at the time the jurying was done).

Alumni and Fellows participating in the exhibition are both professional and avocational woodworkers from around the U.S. and Canada. They include Nick Barboza (Bangor, ME), John Beaver (Pacific Palisades, CA), Jonathan Brower (Pascoag, RI), Mark Buley (Frederic, WI), Nicholas Doremus (Jacobstown, NJ), Reuben Foat (San Diego, CA), Melanie Hamilton (St. John’s, N.L.)
