Kimberly Winkle
September 21-25
This workshop introduces novice woodturners to the essential principles of woodturning while encouraging creative exploration through color and surface enhancements. Kimberly guides students through proper tool selection, sharpening methods, and safety practices, using standard turning tools such as gouges, scrapers, and parting tools, while demonstrating core turning techniques that build confidence and control.
Participants practice both spindle and faceplate turning, as they create a range of small objects such as candlesticks, a small footstool, and more. In addition to technical skills, students explore elements of design and ways to personalize work through surface embellishment with milk paint.
Students experiment with painting, texturing, and other decorative approaches to bring individuality, charm, and creative expression to their finished pieces. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a solid foundation in woodturning and new ideas for expanding their creative practice.
