Beth Ireland
September 4-8

This workshop is an excellent next step for anyone who has already begun to learn the fundamentals of woodturning, including students who have completed one of our introductory courses. Beth leads participants through a series of projects that utilize proper spindle and end-grain turning techniques to create boxes, vessels, and bowls. Additionally, students learn to make custom tools for hollowing and specialized applications.

Beth emphasizes safe and efficient tool handling throughout. She also creates a supportive atmosphere in which students can develop their creative voices. Among the decorative skills she covers are architectural carving for twists and patterns, offset turning, and pyrography.

Beth Ireland has been a professional woodworker since 1983, specializing in turning and sculpture. She holds an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and her work has been widely exhibited and published in Fine Woodworking and American Woodturner. She has also held several prestigious Windgate fellowships and participated in the International Turning Exchange. Beth’s business encompasses everything from production runs of turned balusters, to sculpture, to one-of-a-kind stringed instruments. She lives in St. Petersburg, FL, and her website is bethireland.net.

Open to intermediate turners, including anyone who has completed one of our introductory.
