On a walk through our turning studio on any given day, you may hear loud laugter and be forgiven for thinking that no work could possibly be getting done around here. How could there be, when there are so often groups of students sharing a belly laugh with their instuctor, Beth Ireland?
Spend a few moments looking around, however, and this first impression is quickly disproven. Students are spread throughout the studio and workshop, busily working on the lathes, at the machines, and in the finishing studio.
Led by lead instructor Beth Ireland and visiting instructors, Mark Gardner and Al Stirt, our Turning Intensive students are introduced to all facets of professional turning. Over the course of eight weeks students learn to turn a wide range of products, including architectural features, furniture components, and bowls and platters. For the green-wood turning portion of the course, students also have the opportunity to learn proper chainsaw use and safety in order to produce their own turning blanks.
It’s incredible to see the myriad of creative ways students apply their newly found skills over the course of eight short weeks. Congratulations, everyone! The belly laughs seem to be working for you.
